Prayer to Break Curses from LDS Temple Rituals
Although I haven’t written an article about temples, oaths and covenants yet, I’ve made some videos about dangerous aspects of endowment and significant changes that have been made to cover them up—specifically the apron. Satan tells Adam and Eve to put on the green apron to hide from God and we all do the same, then we keep it on while making secret oaths and covenants. (If your first time through the temple was 2023 or later you wouldn’t know that Satan tells them to put the apron on, the endowment ritual was changed in 2023 to change this detail. See video in the additional resources section below for more information.)
If you’ve come here on your faith journey leaving the LDS church, this might be your first time exploring the concept of deliverance. If you’ve realized that you felt more fear in the temple than peace, and the rituals felt anything but Godly, this will restore your peace. As faithful members of the church we were told that the temple was the Holiest place on earth. We went to the temple intending to worship God but instead entered into deception.
The Bible warns us of the crafty traditions of men leading people into spiritual deception. “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8, BSB). The good news is no matter the deception we walked in or the spiritual chains placed on us, God “grants [us] repentance so that [we] may know the truth, and that [we] may come into [our] senses and escape the snare of the devil,” (2 Timothy 2:25-26). We know that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). We escape the spiritual bondage on our own, but who Jesus sets free is free indeed (John 8:36).
Prayer to Break Curses from LDS Temple Rituals (CLICK HERE)
When temple covenants were first made, we entered the temple naïve and unaware. Do not blindly pray this prayer without understanding the purpose of it and what you will say. Read the prayer over first, then declare it out loud with power and authority in Jesus Christ. This prayer incorporates all aspects of LDS temple rituals in their original form. Some aspects of the temple endowment ritual have changed over the years, specifically the penalties being removed in 1990. Post 1990, the sign of each token is held still with hands and arms in specific positions, but the motion of the penalty across the body has been removed. The church leaders have stated that although temple ordinances have changed over the years, the covenants remain the same. So for the purposes of this prayer we will refer to the original ritual and penalties, including the motions of the hands across the throat and chest. In these portions it will guide you to renounce the agreement to the penalties whether done knowingly (pre-1990) or unknowingly (post-1990). Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you through this prayer and add anything you feel prompted to include.
Generational Curses
Lord, the Bible says that the iniquities of the fathers can affect children to the third and fourth generation (Deuteronomy 5:9, Exodus 20:5). Though I honor my earthly father, mother and ancestors, I utterly turn away from and renounce all their sins of dead works and witchcraft. I forgive all my ancestors for the effects of their sins on me and my children. I confess and renounce all of my own sins. I renounce and rebuke Satan and every spiritual power of his affecting me and my family. I repent for and renounce all curses brought on me and my family from my ancestors who had a hand in creating, participating or officiating dead works of baptism, confirmation, initiatory, the endowment oaths and covenants, marriage sealing, second anointing and blood atonement. I reject the worship of false gods as my forefathers did and declare that I serve the Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity and in truth (Joshua 24:14). I call upon your promise Lord, that you are faithful for a thousand generations to those who love you (Deuteronomy 7:9, Psalm 103:17).
Baptism & Confirmation for the Dead
I repent for participating in dead works, being baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on behalf of persons who have died. I renounce the curses associated with acting as a savior for others, believing dead persons could be saved because of my works rather than the grace of Jesus Christ. I declare Jesus Christ the one and only savior of the world. There is nothing I can do to save the dead that he did not do already. I proclaim his atonement and death on the cross the ultimate sacrifice and that his word is true and final: it is finished. I repent for encouraging others, family members and ward members, to also participate in dead works.
Initiatory
I repent for and renounce the washing and anointing of the initiatory ritual. I renounce and break every curse on my head, brain, intellect, ears, eyes, nose, lips, neck, shoulders, back, bone marrow, spine, breast, vitals, bowels, arms, hands, loins, legs and feet. I pray for healing in every part and organ of my body in Jesus’ name, I declare the Lord as the healer and restorer of my health (Jeremiah 30:17). I pray for a renewed my mind, eyes to see truth and the gift to discern deception (Ephesians 4:22-24, Romans 12:2). I pray for ears to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and lips to proclaim His salvation (Romans 1:16).
I renounce the anointing to become a priest, priestess, king or queen unto a false god. I renounce the temple garment and it’s masonic markings matching the veil of the temple. I renounce the shield and veil the garments have had over my life, my mind and my spirit. I declare God is my shield and protector (Psalm 18:30, 2 Thessalonians 3:3). I renounce the new name I was given, (state your new name). I renounce and break every curse associated with the initiatory washing and anointing on me and my posterity. I cut off all spirits of death, witchcraft, and deception and in the Name of Jesus Christ. I ask for a release of compassion and understanding for me and my family.
Endowment
I repent for and renounce all the oaths taken and the curses involved in the temple endowment ritual. I renounce the ritual clothing, specifically the fig leaf apron that Lucifer stated represents his power and priesthood. I renounce all emblems of Lucifer’s power and priesthood and repent for following his instructions to put on the apron to hide from God. I renounce every oath and covenant made in deception while wearing the apron. I renounce the the robe, the sash, the slippers and cap or veil.
I renounce the covenant that women are put under to obey the law of their husbands. I declare that God made men and women equal, and husbands and wives both must submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21).
I renounce the covenant to sacrifice everything that I possess even my own life to sustain a false mockery of the kingdom of God. I declare I put all my trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and submit to Him, I thank you God for making my paths straight and bringing me into your kingdom (Proverbs 3:5-6, Colossians 1:13).
The First Token of the Aaronic Priesthood
I renounce the first token the Aaronic priesthood with its accompanying name, sign and penalty. I renounce the token, handshake, or the Grip of an Entered Apprentice borrowed from Freemasonry. I renounce the name of the first token of the Aaronic priesthood which is the new name I was given, (state your new name). I renounce the sign and the penalty pantomiming slitting my own throat, whether done knowingly or unknowingly. I renounce every curse associated with the covenant and obligation of secrecy and the penalty of peril and loss of life. I renounce the philosophies of men mingled with scripture and the fear of falling into Satan’s power if I break these temple covenants. I declare that I know the plans God has for me, plans to prosper and not to harm me, plans to give me a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
I renounce the covenant to avoid loud laughter and speaking evil of the leaders of the LDS church blasphemously called “the Lord’s anointed” and declare that the joy of the Lord is my strength and He is my saving refuge (Psalm 28:7-8).
The Second Token of the Aaronic Priesthood
I renounce the second token of the Aaronic priesthood with its accompanying name, sign and penalty. I renounce the token, handshake, or the Pass Grip of a Fellow Craft borrowed from Freemasonry. I renounce my own first name being used as the name of the second token of the Aaronic priesthood. I renounce the sign and the penalty pantomiming cutting open my chest, whether done knowingly or unknowingly. I renounce every curse associated with the covenant and obligation of secrecy and the penalty of suffering my own life to be taken. I renounce the mixing truth and error, and the blasphemy of combining covenants to God with death penalties. I declare in Jesus’ name that no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
The First Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood
I renounce the first token of the Melchizedek priesthood, or sure sign of the nail, with its accompanying name, sign and penalty. I renounce the token or handshake mimicking the nail driven into Jesus’s palms and renounce the name which is “the son.” I renounce the sign and the penalty of pantomiming cutting open my abdomen. I renounce every curse associated with the covenant and obligation of secrecy and renounce the penalty of disembowelment. I thank you God for delivering me from the domain of darkness and transferring me to the kingdom of your beloved Son (Colossians 1:13).
I renounce the covenant to consecrate all my time, talents, and everything which God has given or will give me to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I renounce upholding the LDS church as the kingdom of God on earth and the establishment of Zion.
The Second Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood
I renounce the second token of the Melchizedek priesthood, the patriarchal grip, or sure sign of the nail with its accompanying name and sign. I renounce the handshake referencing the crucifixion of the Savior with a nail through the hands and wrists. I renounce chanting “Pay Lay Ale,” or “Oh God, hear the words of my mouth ” and renounce every prayer made around unholy altars. I renounce every curse put on me by my name being placed on unholy altars and also repent for every curse I participated in sending others whose name laid on unholy altars.
I renounce the marks of the veil and the corresponding marks on the garments. I renounce the square and compass on the chest, their Masonic roots, and every associated curse on the body, mind and deception of truth. I renounce the navel mark and knee mark and every associated curse on the body and mind. I renounce the veil itself, as historically the veil of the tempe was torn in half when Jesus died, signifying no more separation between God and man (Matthew 27:51). I renounce conversing with a false representation of the Lord in the Masonic five points of fellowship through the temple veil. I renounce the name of the second token of Melchizedek priesthood and all curses associated with the navel, bone marrow, loins and sinews. I renounce the power of the priesthood upon me and my posterity. I repent for practicing dead works, making these oaths and covenants on behalf of deceased persons.
Marriage Sealing
I repent for establishing my marriage on the foundation of Masonic ritual. I renounce the marriage sealing and all curses associated with entering into a marriage covenant kneeling at an unholy altar. I renounce wearing ritual clothing including the fig leaf apron while making marriage covenants. I renounce every curse on my marriage and my posterity related to Masonic marriage covenants. I renounce apathy, control, ego, and defensiveness in marriage and pray for marriage filled with the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

Prayer to Break Masonic Oaths & Covenants
The oaths and covenants made in LDS temples are masonic in nature and spiritually binding to individuals even after walking away from the church. Before writing the Prayer to Break Curses from Oaths & Covenants Made in LDS Temple Rituals, the prayer to break Masonic oaths was the closest prayer of deliverance applicable to ex-Mormons. You may find it helpful to read it over, and if you or any ancestors have been involved in Freemasonry to also pray the prayer for deliverance.
This prayer has been taken and adapted from the book “Unmasking Masonry – Removing the Hood Wink“ by Selwyn Stevens. Be aware this prayer was written specifically for Freemasonry rituals, some of the names, motions, ritual clothing and objects vary in the LDS temple ritual, I suggest adding or substituting LDS temple specific verbiage as you feel it applies as you go through the prayer. Here I’ve included portions of the prayer to break Masonic oaths most applicable to the LDS temple rituals. PRAYER OF RELEASE FOR FREEMASONS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS (CLICK HERE)
If you were once a mason or are a descendant of a mason, we recommend that you pray through the following prayer from your heart! Don’t be like the masons who are given their obligations and oaths one line at a time and without prior knowledge of the requirements. Please read it through first so you know what is involved. It is best to pray this aloud with a Christian witness or counselor present. We suggest a brief pause following each paragraph to allow the Holy Spirit to show any additional issues which may require attention.
Father God, Creator of heaven and earth, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ your Son. I come as a sinner seeking forgiveness and cleansing from all sins committed against You, and others made in Your Image. I honor my earthly father and mother and all of my ancestors of flesh and blood, and of the spirit by adoption, and god-parents, but I utterly turn away from and renounce all their sins. I forgive all my ancestors for the effects of their sins on me and my children. I confess and renounce all of my own sins. I renounce and rebuke satan and every spiritual power of his affecting me and my family.
I renounce and forsake all involvement in Freemasonry or any other lodge or craft by my ancestors and myself. I renounce witchcraft, the principle spirit behind Freemasonry, and I renounce Baphomet, the spirit of anti-Christ and the curse of the Luciferian doctrine. I renounce the idolatry, blasphemy, secrecy and deception of masonry at every level. I specifically renounce the in security, the love of money, avarice (covetousness) or greed, and the pride which would have led my ancestors into masonry. I renounce all the fears which held them in masonry, especially the fears of death, fears of men, and fears of trusting in the name of Jesus Christ I renounce every position held in the lodge by any of my ancestors, including “Tyler”, “Master”, “Worshipful Master“, or any other. I renounce the calling of any man “master”, for Jesus Christ is my only Master and Lord, and He forbids anyone else having that title in my life. I renounce the entrapping of others into masonry, and observing the helplessness of others during the rituals. I renounce the effects of masonry passed on to me through any female ancestor who felt distrusted and rejected by her husband as he entered and attended any lodge and refused to tell her of his secret activities.
1st Degree
I renounce the oaths taken and the curses involved in the 1st or “entered-apprentice” degree, especially their effects on the throat and tongue. I renounce the HOODWINK, the BLINDFOLD, and its effects on emotions and eyes, including all confusion, fear of the dark, fear of the light, and fear of sudden noises. I renounce the secret word BOAZ and all it means. I renounce the mixing and mingling of truth and error, and the blasphemy of this degree of masonry. I renounce the noose around the neck, the fear of choking and also every spirit causing asthma, hay-fever, emphysema, or any other breathing difficulty. I renounce the compass point, sword or spear held against the breast, the fear of death by stabbing pain, and the fear of heart attack from this degree. In the Name of Jesus Christ I now pray for healing of throat / vocal cords / nasal passages, sinus, and bronchial tubes etc.) I pray for healing in the speech area, and the release of the Word of GOD to me, and through me and my family.
2nd Degree
I renounce the oaths taken and the curses involved in the second or “fellow craft” degree of masonry, especially the curses on the heart and chest. I renounce the secret words JACHIN and SHIBBOLETH and all that these mean. I cut off emotional hardness, apathy, indifference, unbelief, and deep anger, from me and my family. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray for the healing of the chest / lung/heart area) and also for the healing of my emotions, and I ask to be made sensitive to the Holy Spirit of GOD.
3rd Degree
I renounce all the oaths taken and the curses involved in the third or master mason degree, especially the curses on the stomach and womb area. I renounce the secret words MAHA BONE, MACHABEN, MACHBINNA and TUBAL CAIN and all that they mean. I renounce the spirit of death from the blows to the head enacted as ritual murder, the fear of death false martyrdom, fear of violent gang attack, assault, or rape, and the helplessness of this degree. I renounce the falling into the coffin or stretcher involved in the ritual of murder. I renounce the false resurrection and the life! I also renounce the blasphemous kissing of the Bible on a witchcraft oath. I cut off all spirits of death, witchcraft, and deception and in the Name of Jesus Christ pray for the healing of stomach / gall bladder / womb / liver, and any other organs of my body affected by masonry, and I ask for a release of compassion and understanding for me and my family.
All Other Degrees
I renounce all the other oaths taken, the rituals of every other degree and the curses involved. I renounce all other lodges and secret societies, such as PRINCE HALL FREEMASONRY, MORMONISM, the ORDER OR AMARANTH, ODD FELLOWS, BUFFALOS, DRUIDS,FORESTERS, ORANGE, ELKS, MOOSE AND EAGLES LODGES, the KU KLUX KLAN, THE GRANGE, the WOODMEN OF THE WORLD, RIDERS OF THE RED ROBE, the KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS, the MYSTIC ORDER OF THE VEILED PROPHETS OF THE ENCHANTED REALM, the WOMEN’S ORDERS OF THE EASTER STAR, and of the WHITE SHRINE OF JERUSALEM, the GIRLS’ ORDER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE EASTER STAR, the INTERNATIONAL ORDERS OF JOB’S DAUGHTERS, and of the RAINBOW, and the BOY‘S ORDER OF DE MOLAY, and their effects on me and all my family.
I renounce the ancient pagan teaching and symbolism of the FIRST TRACING BOARD, the SECOND TRACING BOARD, and the THIRD TRACING BOARD used in the RITUAL OF THE BLUE LODGE. I renounce the pagan ritual of the ‘POINT WITHIN-A CIRCLE‘ with all its bondages and false worship. I renounce the occultic mysticism of black and white mosaic checkered floor with the tessellated border and five pointed blazing star. I renounce the symbol “G” and its veiled pagan symbolism and bondages. I renounce and utterly forsake the GREAT ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE, who is revealed in the higher degrees as Lucifer, and his false claim to be the universal fatherhood of God. I also renounce the false claim that Lucifer is the morning star and shining one, and I declare that JESUS CHRIST is the BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR of Revelation 22:16.
I renounce the ALL-SEEING THIRD EYE of freemasonry or HORUS in the forehead and its pagan and occult symbolism. I renounce all false communions taken, all mockery of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, all unbelief, confusion and depression, and all worship of Lucifer as God. I renounce and forsake the lie of freemasonry that man is not sinful, but merely imperfect, and so can redeem himself through good works. I rejoice that the Bible states that I cannot do a single thing to earn my salvation, but that I can only be saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and what he accomplished on the cross of Calvary.
In the Name of Jesus Christ, I renounce all fear of insanity, anguish, death wishes, suicide and death. Jesus Christ conquered death; He alone holds the keys of death and hell, and I rejoice that He holds my life in His hands now. He came to give me life abundantly and eternally, and I believe His promises.
I renounce all anger, hatred, murderous thoughts, revenge, retaliation, spiritual apathy, false religion, all unbelief, especially unbelief in the Holy Bible as God’s Word, and all compromise of God’s Word. I renounce all spiritual searching into false religions, and all striving to please God. I rest in the knowledge that I have found my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and that He has found me.
I will burn all objects in my possession that connect me with all lodges and occultic organizations, including masonry, witchcraft and Mormonism, all regalia, aprons, books of rituals, rings and other jewelry. In Jesus Name I renounce the effects these or other masonry have had on me or my family, such as the compass, the square, the noose or the blindfold.
All participants are now invited to sincerely carry out the following:
1. Symbolically remove the blindfold (hoodwink) and give it to the lord for disposal;
2. In the same way symbolically remove the veil of mourning;
3. Symbolically cut and remove the noose from around the neck, gather it up with the cable – tow running down the body and give it all to the LORD for His disposal;
4. Renounce the false freemasonry marriage covenant, removing from the 4th finger of the right hand the ring of this false marriage covenant, giving it to the lord to dispose of;
5. Symbolically remove all freemasonry regalia and armor, especially the apron;
6. Invite participants to repent of and seek forgiveness for having had a personal association, connection and allegiance to the buildings, symbols and premises of masonry lodges and temples, including Mormon or other occultic /masonic organizations;
7. Symbolically remove the ball and chain from the ankles;
8. Proclaim that satan and his demons no longer have any legal rights to mislead and manipulate the person(s) seeking help; Holy Spirit, I ask that you show me anything else which I need to do or to pray so that I and my family may be totally free from the consequences of the sins of masonry, witchcraft, Mormonism and paganism.
Pause while listening to God in your heart, and pray as the Holy Spirit leads you…
Now, dear Father God, I ask humbly for the blood of Jesus Christ Your Son, to cleanse me from all these sins I have confessed and renounced, to cleanse my spirit, my soul, my mind, my emotions and every part of my body which has been affected by these sins, in Jesus’ Name.
I renounce every evil spirit associated with masonry and witchcraft and all other sins, and I command in the Name of Jesus Christ for satan and every evil spirit to be bound and to leave me now, touching or harming no one, and go to the place appointed for you by the Lord Jesus, never to return to me or my family. I call on the Name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST to be delivered of these spirits, in accordance with the many promises of the Bible. I ask to be delivered of every spirit of sickness, infirmity, curse, affliction, addiction, disease, or allergy associated with these sins I have confessed and renounced. I surrender to God’s Holy Spirit, and to no other spirit, all the places of my life where these sins have been. I ask You Lord, to baptize me in Your Holy Spirit now, according to the promises in Your Word. I take to myself the whole armor of God in accordance with Ephesians 6, and rejoice in its protection as Jesus surrounds me and fills me with the Holy Spirit. I enthrone You, Lord Jesus, in my heart, for you are my Lord and my Savior, the Source of eternal life. Thank You, Father God, for Your mercy, your forgiveness and Your love, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Christians should pray for masons without judging them. Bring their sins to God in an attitude of love, petitioning the Father for His mercy, binding in the Name of Jesus Christ the spirits of deception, anti-Christ, witchcraft and death. Most men have no perception of the spiritual deception they have entered into. Please remember that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (your loved one), but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). This is a spiritual battle, and should be treated accordingly.

Prayer for Breaking Curses
This prayer was my first experience with praying for deliverance. In a moment of desperation and anxiety, my husband spiraling into a panic attack, God had someone I barely knew send this to me with perfect timing. As I began to read it, my husband’s panic attack got worse and he told me to stop, it wouldn’t help anything—that’s when I knew this was exactly what I needed to do. I whispered the prayer for myself and him and, by the end, his panic attack and anxiety were completely subsided and he was at peace. PRAYER FOR BREAKING CURSES (CLICK HERE)
I proclaim that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’” (Galatians 3:13).
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I now bring the fullness of his cross, death, blood, and sacrifice, his resurrection, life, and empty tomb, his authority, rule, and dominion; I bring judgment from the throne of Jesus Christ against every foul power, witchcraft, black art, and curse. I bring Jesus Christ cursed for me against all curses that have been raised against me—written, spoken, unspoken, or transferred to me.
[If you know what the exact curses are, it helps to name them. For example, “all curses of death,” or “all curses on my marriage or my health,” etc.]
I bring the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, his blood shed upon the cross, against all blood sacrifices and rituals and their every claim against me.
I bring Jesus Christ, the Son of God, sacrificed for me, against all ritual sacrifices and their every claim against me.
I bring the dedication of Jesus Christ for me in death upon the cross against all ritual dedications.
In the name, and by the blood of Jesus Christ, I break the power and hold of every curse that has come to me through ritual or ritual sacrifice.
In the name, and by the blood of Jesus Christ, I break the power and hold of every curse that has come to me through transfer by another human being.
In the name, and by the blood of Jesus Christ, I break the power and hold of every curse that has come to me through words spoken.
In the name, and by the blood of Jesus Christ, I break the power and hold of every curse that has come to me through occult practices.
In the name of Jesus, I declare every legal hold and every legal ground of the enemy broken, disarmed, and destroyed. Satan has no hold over me now through curses or occult practices, through sacrifices or ritual of any kind. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, I am free. Thank you, Jesus, for setting me free. I order these curses and claims utterly disarmed and dismantled now, through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, and in his name.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I command all demonic spirits that have gained access to me through curses and rituals cut off and banished from me and my household, in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus, I ask you to send your angels now to completely disarm all curses and black arts from me; disarm their every device and render them destroyed. I ask your angels to remove all foul spirits involved in these curses and black arts and bind them to your feet for judgment.
I now claim every spiritual blessing that my Heavenly Father has given to me in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). I claim those blessings right here in the very place of all cursing, by the authority and power of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in his name. Jesus, may these things be fully accomplished now through your mighty name. I give you thanks and honor and praise. All of this I pray by the authority and in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who came in the flesh.
The Prayer of Freedom
The Prayer of Freedom by Beatty Carmichael is an incredible resource for understanding the spiritual and Biblical basis for spiritual contracts and deliverance. Over the past couple of years my husband and I have had our own experiences being instantaneously delivered from anxiety, depression and chronic pain. When I learned about this book and read it, I thought “this is just what we did!” We had experienced first hand the effectiveness of this “prayer of freedom” before even hearing about the book.
